A DAY IN FLOOD RELIEF CENTRE - S.K. LASAH

Today is the second time I came to this centre. I have been here on Christmas Day! This is a Malay majority centre.

I rushed to this centre once I was informed the centre lack of volunteers for cooking. Foods are plenty. Cooking utensils are complete. Calls, wechat and watsapp to all my networks. Committee members form KSK Jalong, KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah responded positively!

getting ready to distribute food

Sungai Siput Red Crescent (PBSM) was appointed to take care of the meals in the centre. Cooking utensils were sent by PBSM HQ but ... My previous visit, the kitchen was under the care of JPAM. They shall be here till the centre closed however due to unforeseen circustances, they left early. Luckily, a group of PBSM volunteers from Kuala Kangsar - Larut Matang came and take over the kitchen for a short stint. They are living in the evening.

No worry, the kitchen will be under the care of KSK Jalong, KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah volunteers till tomorrow afternoon. The PBSM Tanjung Malim shall arrive tomorrow evening for replacement

In my mind, why those who stay in the relief centre volunteer themselves to cook? They have nothing to do all day. A man said ... eat and sleep ...

LASAH FLOOD RELIEF CENTRE

Today is Christmas Day, kids love to see Santa Clause! Here, the Lasah Flood Relief Centre in S.K. Lasah likes to see volunteers. JPAM volunteers and RELA members are busy with their job. Sungai Siput Red Crescent (PBSM) is entrusted to the kitchen. Cooking utensils are available but there is no PBSM members around. The job is handle by JPAM currently.

Met the group of volunteers from Malaya University. They came without invitation. They just come to see what they can help. I appreciate their volunteerism spirit which should be emulated by all young Malaysians!

1 MALAYSIA SPIRIT

Racial and religious tension have been ailing lately. All wants to be the champion fighting the rights of their race and religion. They forget, by fighting for their own rights has deny the rights of others. In order to eliminate such tensions, the young Malaysians shall be taught to be cohesive. Cohesion develop the basis of racial understanding among the multiracial Malaysian - culture, religion believe and daily living style.

During pre-independence era, all Malaysian were asked to be tolerance to each other. This has been practice for the last 50 years. Today, tolerance is no longer relevant; it shall be understanding among the multiracial Malaysian.

Unfortunately, this does not happen but it worsen by the fanatics and extremist. Talking without facts and simply using the holy verses which are totally misinterpreted. Peace and harmony can prevail if the 'greediness', 'craziness' and 'revenge' in the our soul eliminated.

Walk the talk, as the Administration Manager of Perak Entrepreneur & Skills Development Centre [PESDC], the young (majority are dropouts and academic decline school leavers) has been train to be cohesive among the multiracial trainees and trainers. Hopefully the seeds will growth toward building a harmony, gratitude and compassionate Malaysian!

celebrating birthday will fun and joys ... no heart feeling; we are 1 family!

CONFUSION ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The government has plan a number of economic development projects to uplift the living standard of the indigenous people in Jalong Tinggi. Most of the projects were with the collaboration and cooperation with various government agencies e.g. Rubber Small holders Development Agency [RISDA], Lembaga Koko Malaysia [LKM] and Lembaga Getah Malaysia [LGM] etc.

Recently, 24,000 rubber seedlings has been allocated to Kampung Hussin by the Ministry of Rural Development via JAKOA. An area of almost 150 acreage is needed to plant 24,000 rubber seedlings. The 'Orang Asal' without reference and approval from the Jabatan Perhutanan try to open up forest land. JAKOA did not inform or apply to Jabatan Perhutanan either.

When Jabatan Perhutanan notice the open burning and clearing works carry out in the forest reserve zone, an immediate stop work order issued. As such there are aggressiveness by the 'Orang Asal' towards Jabatan Perhutanan staff. I was told that weapons e.g. parang and sumpit were brought out by the 'Orang Asal'. On the other hand, the Jabatan Perhutanan staff try to load their shot gun (I wonder is Jabatan Perhutanan staff equip with guns!). A police report has been made by both parties.

From a trusted source of information, the Jabatan Perhutanan try to assist JAKOA and the 'Orang Asal' to ensure that the project success. Jabatan Perhutanan proposed to arrange logging and proper land clearance and preparation for rubber cultivation; however, the Batin Kampung Hussin (Adnan) disagreed and protest the proposal.

I personally agreed to Jabatan Perhutanan. Land should be properly cleared and prepare so that there is no land erosion and other environmental problems. With due respect to the 'Orang Asal', they should get assistance from experience government agencies e.g. RISDA, LGM for that purpose. Planting is easy but maintaining with high production yield need proper monitoring and management. Lacking of planting technique will distract all the effort furthermore is a waste of land, money, effort, unproductive and environmental problems occur.

I try to make an appointment with the batin but not successful.

There are confusion on these:
  • Why seedlings were sent without land availability?
  • Everybody is aware that 'Orang Asal' do not know rubber cultivation, why not training provided?
  • Why no proper discussion and planning among the related parties i.e. JAKOA, Jabatan Perhutanan?
  • Why no estimation on this project - how much is the seedling cost, land clearance and preparation?
  • Where is the integrity among the civil servants?
  • Why no project feasibility study?
  • Who are the beneficial of this project?
  • ... and the queries and ???? continuesss .......
